Rehearsal dinner location?

We're having a fairly low-budget wedding (around $5k), but my FIL's are paying for the rehearsal dinner...at a pretty nice place. (My fiance and suggested pizza and a few kind of casual places, such as kitsch'n, but the in-laws weren't so into it.) Oh, yeah, and since we live in Chicago and are getting married there, we want to stay in the city for everything.

We're planning on inviting nearly three-quarters of the wedding to the rehearsal dinner, so there'll be 30 people invited. So far, it seems like restaurants want to charge an exhorbitant fee for renting a private party space (dinner minimums over $2k!), or we'll have to try to find a quiet enough corner surrounded by a crowd in the main part of a restaurant. Right now, our front-runner is Red Rooster, since their capacity is about 35, but it would still be nice to find some other place that has valet parking (or a cheap/free lot-ha!) that has nice entrees at about $15 a pop and some quiet area for a large party that won't cost over $1500. I feel like I've overthought this, so I'm wondering is someone here has any places they can point me to.

Oh, and the future in laws live in New England, so they can't personally scope out restaurants.
